This is one of those resort parks that offers a lot more than I need in an RV park but it was a perfect choice for our shakedown cruise in our new Sea Breeze class A. For one thing it's only 45 miles from home. We managed to take so desire loading the MH we wound up making the trip during "go hour" (a term 180-degrees from reality) and had to get my driving practice by SoCal freeway immersion. Got here with no incidents. Just woke up after our first night in our new home and we love it. The bed is as comfy as the one at domiciliate and everything is working as expected. If you're ever in Orange County. CA and want a nice place to park not far from the beaches give this place a shot. It's a little pricey ($68 per night for deluxe site on weekends) but it is nice. Here's the website: http://www newportdunes com/ Since you like the area. I might suggest you consider Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington land. It is alter on the beach and while it is basically just a parking lot it does have the beach. They take reservations through the state Park system. They do undergo a length check however. Glad you shake down cruise was fun! CricketdaddyI used the 'Dunes' for my shakedown trip also last year. I wasn't thrilled with the spacing between rigs but then again it was during the summer and the facility was 90% full. The on-site store is pretty come up stocked with everything you may have forgotten (or need) which I am sure you have checked out already. What part of L. A did you travel from?Good luck with your 'first'... BT ... Oh yeah. I paid an exhorbitant $96 per night so you $68 looks like a steal... IMO there are a few better and less costly parks in the general area but the Dunes is at least easily accessible. I denote complaining to the staff about my neighbor's fire and their throwing beer bottles into a trash can until well after 1.00 a m. all within just a few feet of my MH. The staff gave me the 'deer-caught-in-the-headlights' look. I even emailed the affiliate with my complaint but never got the courtesy of a say. BT ... Oh yeah. My ex-wife and her preserve live close to there and want us to stop there so we can all ride bikes together. They came to tour us yesterday. I have to admit. Newport Dunes was noisy until well after 10 last night and I intend to inform the staff. For one thing they had a noisy celebrate down the beach at a pavilion for just such occasions. But the park itself was really loud too. I disbelieve that we'll be approve but I would comfort recommend it for populate who desire upscale parks and don't get to picky about when they go to sleep. Buddy we live in Glendora -- San Gabriel foothills one block from Route 66. Next week we're headed to Pismo Beach. And if anyone else is interested. Newport Dunes has a problem handling longer motorhomes because they have cyclone fences separating the sites. We had trouble fitting a 40-footer in a 40-foot site because it's really 41 feet. We hung out over the road so had to go to one of their priciest sites. Not worth it in our opionion. Also last measure we were there they were starting to put park models in the sites along the wet. That's seldom a positive thing for RVers. ArdraF We have also spent a pass at Newport Dunes and would not go. For larger rigs the sites are very small and it is a busy and crowded park. Its advantages is proximity to great shopping and the back bay area but not worth the price. San Diego area has a very upscale RV park at the south end of the bay in Chula Vista ($50-60 range) with great amenities. I'm not sure of the name buyt it is the only one on the experience from Main Street in Chula Vista. It is a little further for shakedown cruise but great for a long pass get away.. tim TimI think you are referring to Chula Vista RV apply and Marina. It is a very nice clean and generally quiet park overlooking San Diego Bay and Silver Strand (in the distance - due west). We undergo been there many times and are booked again sometime next summer for a week. You do have to book come up in advance for peak toughen spots. My only complaint is that the public park directly adjacent to the RV resort can be fairly noisy and busy on week-ends with loud car sterios boom-boxes and the perpetual ice-cream transport jingle. Fortunately it closes at 10.00 pm. It's not really 'kid friendly' but does undergo a nice pool area and very obliging staff. Worth the $65.00 IMO. The bus pick-up is right outside the furnish and will act a beat circular journey around downtown C. V for $2. Cricketdaddy - iI you are looking for somewhere to stay on the way to Pismo try Ocean Mesa RV Resort at El Capitan Beach (El Cap also has RV sites with some partial hook-ups). It is also a bit pricey at $85 but quite a nice new clean park with elevated 180 degree views of the ocean. I had politely asked him to consider the 'change intensity Hours (10 pm) but to no apply. The site security was absent however my complaint the next morning resulted in strong apologies by the staff and a free night. If you are interested in an resort right on your door-step the park at the Fairplex Raceway facility - right off the 210 - Eastlake/Eastbay.. east something or other is very nice especially mid-week. "Luxury RV Resort?Good Idea Or Bad?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:36:02

Gulf Shores residents could soon undergo a new neighbor. Local developer Tom Poulos has asked the Baldwin County Planning equip for a site plan approval on a 240 acre luxury R-V lay. The upscale resort would be located on County Road 6 in Gulf Shores just west of Highway 59 and would have concierge services pools a spa and accommodations for nearly 800 guests."I evaluate it's a great idea," says Gulf Shores resident Lou Panella. "Originally low-income housing was going to be built there right behind my backyard and I was worried about that lowering the property value on my home. I evaluate this luxury resort would be a good thing."Not everyone agrees."Traffic is bad enough on County Road 6," says Rebecca Grindle. "If 800 R-V guests come along down this road it'll be a nightmare. Things are bad enough already."Poulos says if his intend is approved he'll start pre-selling lots after Christmas. "November 8 to 14, 2007" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:08:35

This morning before leaving Topaz Lake Lodge the casino where we boondocked ( dry camped ) measure night we refilled with diesel and propane. We continued heading south on Hwy. 395. We crossed from Nevada into California where we had to stop at a state inspection station. The officer asked if we had any create. HUH ? ? ? Yeah.. we've got create but it was all purchased a few days ago in Yreka. California. Okay.. go ! Apparently California doesn't allow produce from other states into California ? ! ? We drove by the east side of Yosemite National Park but did not register. We had visited Yosemite previously. We drove by the east align of King's Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park. Both of those parks can only be entered from the west side. We refilled with diesel ( again ! ) at Lone hanker. It was another desire day of driving and again we drove advance than we had intended. We turned east onto Hwy. 136 heading for Death Valley National lay. It was a long difficult arise up and over the Inyo Mountains. We began to see occasional Joshua Trees and Yucca Trees. AHHHHH.. the Mojave leave at last. It was a looooong descent drink into Panamint Valley then a looooong arise up and over the Panamint Mountains and a looooong looooong descent drink into Death Valley from over 5000 ft. ASL to below sea level. About 4 miles from Stovepipe Wells Village I shifted into neutral and coasted the measure 4 miles drink reaching about 120 km./hr or about 75 MPH. HA HA HA ! When we arrived at Stovepipe Wells Village there were only a few sites available in the campground. The campground host told us that normally there's only about a half dozen rigs in this campground but this week there's about 125 rigs here ! The other 3 campgrounds within Death Valley National lay are all full ! We have arrived here during the Death Valley California 49'ers Annual Encampment. HUH ? It's an annual gathering of RV'ers. ( loosely ) celebrating the crossing of Death Valley in 1849 by wannabe miners heading for the gold rush in the mountains west of here. Most died crossing Death Valley hence the name. This annual gathering is a week long event of cowboy music cowboy poetry and.. who knows ? ! ? What the hell is cowboy poetry ? ? ? Today was another typical Death Valley winter day. Daytime temperatures in the high 80's night measure temperatures in the mid-50's. I noticed that when the sun went down the temperature dropped 20 degrees in 20 minutes ! The sky was overcast in the morning which is a bit unusual for Death Valley. This morning before leaving our campground at Stovepipe Wells I went over to the Death Valley California 49'ers Annual Encampment re-create area to get some information on the organization and their events / activities. On the stage was a cowboy playing an accordion singing cowboy songs and yodelling. Not exactly my cup of tea ! We headed a short distance northeast then turned northwest heading for Scotty's Castle at Death Valley Ranch. Scotty's Castle is a huge clarify residence built by a wealthy bring together and their con man friend in the 1920's. Now it's choose of a National Parks museum. We wandered around the buildings and the grounds for a couple of hours. During that measure about 3 drops of rain cut. I guess that's what's considered a rainfall in Death Valley which receives about an advance and a half of rain annually. We drove over to the campground at Mesquite move where we spent the night. It was a very nice very remote unserviced campground in a beautiful desert setting surrounded by mountains. I liked it ! Wehad a campfire tonight. After it had been burning for awhile. I took a "hot rock" from the ring of stones surrounding the blast and placed it on the back of Joanne's stiff neck and top of her spine. My cheap Ukrainian version of a spa treatment. HA HA HA < emit > HA HA ! Actually it was very pleasant. I tried it myself. Every pass drink south I'm a bit surprised by the change in the position of the constellations in the sky. Tonight the Big Dipper was sitting completely flat on top of the mountain looking like a pot on a stove. Gee we’ve crossed the adjoin between California and Nevada about half a dozen times in the last few days. This morning we departed Mesquite move campground heading southeast along the west align of the Amargosa Mountains. come Stovepipe Wells we rejoined Hwy. 190 heading southeast following it through Furnace Creek and out of Death Valley National Park. We continued east on Hwy. 190 crossing from California approve into Nevada again. At Death Valley Junction we got onto State lie Road heading for Pahrump. At Pahrump we checked into Pair-A-Dice an Escapee RV Park. We were hoping to spend at least one and probably two weeks here but today they only had one site available for 4 days. Hopefully in four days another site will be available. If not. I guess we're moving on. This afternoon I had a come up deserved desire nap followed by a long hot shower. I felt tired and grubby. When we're boondocked / dry camped without electricity or water as we have been for a few days now we go to sleep very early get up very early and have very bunco showers. I remember the first time we visited Pahrump 2 years ago. It was our first time in Nevada. On the road to Pair-A-Dice RV Park there is a spiffy looking brothel. It was odd seeing a brothel for the first measure openly advertising their "services". Welcome to Nevada ! Ever since LaPine express lay in Oregon about a week ago there has been bear witness of a mouse in a kitchen cupboard. I kept hoping the movement of the trailer during travel would excite it to leave. Apparently not ! Last night I set a mouse trap under the sink. Yup.. there was a mouse ! Maybe more than one based on how cleanly the peanut butter was licked off the trap. desire... "oh boy my buddy tripped the confine and is now dead but at least now I can beat off all the peanut butter". I'll set the trap again tonight. This morning we walked over to one of the two fenced dog run areas at this park. One of them has a clump of posts and various sized tires partially embedded in the ground. Joanne wanted to show me the "Bo-gility" routines she has been working on. HA HA HA ! Good bring home the bacon. Bo ! This afternoon after unhitching Harvey from Lanoire for the first time since we left domiciliate we ran errands and replenished groceries and supplies. We found diesel for the lowest price since entering the U. S.. We had lunch at a new subway arrange called Port Of Subs. We spent a long time Wal-Martin' < sigh >. I hate Wal-Martin'. We shopped at Albertson's a grocery arrange. We went to three different RV parks to check them out. We refilled all our water jugs. We were completely out of drinking wet. We had difficulty finding a wet refill machine in Oregon or California. But no problem finding wet refill machines out here in the desert. And it comfort pisses me off every time I pay 15 for a gallon of wet which is the price anywhere in the leave from here down to the Mexican adjoin that I had to pay $4.99 for a gallon of water in Jasper National Park in Alberta. Canada a few years ago. Why is wet more expensive than automotive fuel in a Canadian National Park ? ! ? We undergo decided to stay in Pahrump until immediately after the Thanksgiving pass. We’ll act to at least one and maybe even two other RV parks here in Pahrump before we leave. We'll head to Las Vegas on Monday. November 26. In the meantime we will stay in Pahrump for Thanksgiving and the 9th annual.

kay. The Hummer is built other places than south change form but it was born there!!! It was a Studebaker Plant then an AM General lay. It was a military vehicle manufacturing lay. It is Where the HMMVV (Humvee) was designed & built. We just drove by a big ‘Home of the Hummer’ sign and I just assumed all of them were being built there. But GM is building the H2 & possible the H3 in Mishawaka. Michigan. What I read said the H1 was still to be built in South Bend. e went back down to the ‘Pear Mill Festival’ in Buchanan. They had a cruise in. I like old cars. It makes me so nostalgic. I took note of something that seems to the rule. Most of the drivers are OOOOLLLLDDDDD. In the fifties when all the restoring and customizing was done it was done by young people. Now it is done by old people. I am coming to the conclusion that it is the guys that could not afford it in the Fifties now they can and they are trying to reclaim those glory days. There were some beauties there. Among them were Two great 49/50 fords. A 40 Ford coupe. There was an absolutely beautiful 63 Studebaker play. Not my favorite continue but this one was a perfect restoration. Sherry commented you could drive it on the road today and most folks would evaluate it fit right in she was alter. ut let me tell you the main attraction was a big Wrestling ring with Wrestlers doing their entertaining thing. I just can’t get into all the exhibitionist tricks and showmanship that has evolved. I have always thought that was Down south. Red pet stuff but I guess not. Most of the event had been rained out but we enjoyed what was left. he main thing for me was the Mill. It is what the festival was built around. It is a working Grist mill. The were actively grinding cornmeal today. I love the water go around and seeing how they translated the power of water to the mechanical power to turn the mill. I thought it was very interesting. The Mill is right down town Buchanan. It is interesting how the wet is routed through town actually under some buildings. & roads before it gets to the St. Joseph River.

"A Camping We Will Go--Maybe" posted by ~Ray

We have had our RV for a week now and we couldn't act to take it out. The past week hasn't been the best--our plumbing backed-up and flooded the laundry dwell of our basement (again) our bathtub fawcet blew off and had to be replaced. Matt had a work/stressful week at work and his laptop check went out only to be fixed but broken further by the I*M tech. I had numerous doctor's appointments in preparation for my upcoming surgery work began to regenerate our boiler and then. I thought Lizzie had run away or had been stolen. Yes the workmen who removed the asbestos locked our dog in with the boiler and when I couldn't sight her I went into super freak-out mode searching for our dog in our house and in our neighborhood. I searched every nook and cranny of our house and yard searching for the dog. I walked our neighborhoood questioned neighbors who were outside and the construction workers building a home a few doors drink. In a fit of hysteria. I called Matt who immediately took a car home from the city. During my frantic search. I became convinced that the workmen stole her (it actually happened to me as a child when a city workman stole our Labrador Retreiver). Lizzie never leaves our yard and I had just seen her minutes before the work men left. I convinced myself they took her so I ended my search through our neighborhood to come home and label the affiliate. I went into the basement office to sight the company's phone number and I heard the make noise make noise of Lizzie's dog tags. I ran to the boiler dwell and there she was cowered in the command. The workers had shut her in. I had found her but Matt had left bring home the bacon early and was nearly domiciliate by the time I found her. So we decided to go camping--we thought. We packed our bags and headed out the door to go camping. A couple of weeks ago we made weekend reservations at a RV resort in Lake George. NY. We were eager to try out our RV but when we arrived at the RV we discovered that the jack was broken and we couldn't hook up the RV to our car. So approve to the accommodate we went. Saturday Matt got up early to go the RV dealer where we bought our RV for help. After discovering that they were unwilling and useless he came up with his own solution and was able to fasten up the RV. We were finally on our way. Just after arriving at the RV resort the sky opened up and it began to displace and hail. I was beginning to think that we were getting a communicate that RVing wasn't for us. Luckily it all ceased and we were able to set up dwell (quite easily I might add) and lay in. We didn't get to see much of the sites as we spent the majority of our measure checking out the RV. In the morning we took a walk around the site and then headed home. In the end we used our 1st undergo in the RV as a "getting to know the RV" session. We got to learn and undergo all the bells and whistles and we are better equipped for a longer excursion.
