This is one of those resort parks that offers a lot more than I need in an RV park but it was a perfect choice for our shakedown cruise in our new Sea Breeze class A. For one thing it's only 45 miles from home. We managed to take so desire loading the MH we wound up making the trip during "go hour" (a term 180-degrees from reality) and had to get my driving practice by SoCal freeway immersion. Got here with no incidents. Just woke up after our first night in our new home and we love it. The bed is as comfy as the one at domiciliate and everything is working as expected. If you're ever in Orange County. CA and want a nice place to park not far from the beaches give this place a shot. It's a little pricey ($68 per night for deluxe site on weekends) but it is nice. Here's the website: http://www newportdunes com/
Since you like the area. I might suggest you consider Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington land. It is alter on the beach and while it is basically just a parking lot it does have the beach. They take reservations through the state Park system. They do undergo a length check however. Glad you shake down cruise was fun!
CricketdaddyI used the 'Dunes' for my shakedown trip also last year. I wasn't thrilled with the spacing between rigs but then again it was during the summer and the facility was 90% full. The on-site store is pretty come up stocked with everything you may have forgotten (or need) which I am sure you have checked out already. What part of L. A did you travel from?Good luck with your 'first'... BT
... Oh yeah. I paid an exhorbitant $96 per night so you $68 looks like a steal... IMO there are a few better and less costly parks in the general area but the Dunes is at least easily accessible. I denote complaining to the staff about my neighbor's fire and their throwing beer bottles into a trash can until well after 1.00 a m. all within just a few feet of my MH. The staff gave me the 'deer-caught-in-the-headlights' look. I even emailed the affiliate with my complaint but never got the courtesy of a say. BT

Betty yes we plan to try Bolsa Chica. My ex-wife and her preserve live close to there and want us to stop there so we can all ride bikes together. They came to tour us yesterday. I have to admit. Newport Dunes was noisy until well after 10 last night and I intend to inform the staff. For one thing they had a noisy celebrate down the beach at a pavilion for just such occasions. But the park itself was really loud too. I disbelieve that we'll be approve but I would comfort recommend it for populate who desire upscale parks and don't get to picky about when they go to sleep. Buddy we live in Glendora -- San Gabriel foothills one block from Route 66. Next week we're headed to Pismo Beach.
And if anyone else is interested. Newport Dunes has a problem handling longer motorhomes because they have cyclone fences separating the sites. We had trouble fitting a 40-footer in a 40-foot site because it's really 41 feet. We hung out over the road so had to go to one of their priciest sites. Not worth it in our opionion. Also last measure we were there they were starting to put park models in the sites along the wet. That's seldom a positive thing for RVers. ArdraF
We have also spent a pass at Newport Dunes and would not go. For larger rigs the sites are very small and it is a busy and crowded park. Its advantages is proximity to great shopping and the back bay area but not worth the price. San Diego area has a very upscale RV park at the south end of the bay in Chula Vista ($50-60 range) with great amenities. I'm not sure of the name buyt it is the only one on the experience from Main Street in Chula Vista. It is a little further for shakedown cruise but great for a long pass get away.. tim
TimI think you are referring to Chula Vista RV apply and Marina. It is a very nice clean and generally quiet park overlooking San Diego Bay and Silver Strand (in the distance - due west). We undergo been there many times and are booked again sometime next summer for a week. You do have to book come up in advance for peak toughen spots. My only complaint is that the public park directly adjacent to the RV resort can be fairly noisy and busy on week-ends with loud car sterios boom-boxes and the perpetual ice-cream transport jingle. Fortunately it closes at 10.00 pm. It's not really 'kid friendly' but does undergo a nice pool area and very obliging staff. Worth the $65.00 IMO. The bus pick-up is right outside the furnish and will act a beat circular journey around downtown C. V for $2. Cricketdaddy - iI you are looking for somewhere to stay on the way to Pismo try Ocean Mesa RV Resort at El Capitan Beach (El Cap also has RV sites with some partial hook-ups). It is also a bit pricey at $85 but quite a nice new clean park with elevated 180 degree views of the ocean. I was again unfortunate with my dwell when we stayed who thought it was okay to burn his campfire and consume beer until 2 a m. The consume was so thick inside my MH my smoke detectors kept activating. At around 3.0 a m. I had to remove the batteries to get some rest. At 12.30 a m. I had politely asked him to consider the 'change intensity Hours (10 pm) but to no apply. The site security was absent however my complaint the next morning resulted in strong apologies by the staff and a free night. Pismo Village RV is quite a nice resort and sites should be available this time of the year without reservation. I am familiar with Glendora - and the San Gabriel Mtns area we used to live in La Canada. If you are interested in an resort right on your door-step the park at the Fairplex Raceway facility - right off the 210 - Eastlake/Eastbay.. east something or other is very nice especially mid-week. Lots of spacing and grassy areas between the sites. Very scenic especially on the upper level and overlook Puddingstone Lake (can be noisy with boaters on the w/e). BT

Yes we've been there several times in our camper and liked it very much. But this weekend they are booked solid. Veterans Day outings. I think. Have reservations at a place near there called Pacific Dunes Ranch in Oceano. Know anything about it?

Agree Chula Vista can be noisy on busy weekends but we try for interior site. We lived in Bonsall at the time and it was nice for a long weekend especially over the July 4 weekend as the fireworks for the city are in the bay and you have a front row seat sitting in the RV park. tim
