We once took three whole days to drive 85 miles down in Baja. Camped on the beach and were dawdle blazers because one fellow said no motorhomers had ever been on that road! We had to go so slow we actually got to see the beautiful tiny little flowers alongside the road. ArdraF
Our 6200+ mile trip in August - 21 days.6200/21 = 300 (roughly)The only definite destination was a family visit on the West Coast. The rest was "area" navigation. Living near Houston I've gotta drive at least 2 or 3 days (each way) to get close to anything I wanna see or do - that's 4-6 days that I consider a waste but necessary time on the road ("tare travel" if you will).... bill
Now. Shayne when have we ever mentioned you forgetting the wife at a Flying J??
As for how far we control depends on if we're trying to get somewhere or just traveling. I kind of desire the Rule of Twos... no more than 200 miles act a break every 2 hours forbid by 2:00 finish off with 2 beers. WendyDeath Valley NP
Frank,We like to jaunt the federal and state highways when possible but we do take the interstates if it's necessary. For example we've crossed Texas almost entirely on other than interstates and found some very interesting places.
I prefer not traveling on interstates unless I'm in a hurry to get somewhere or there's no other easy way to get to where we're going. The most interesting places aren't on the interstate. WendyDeath Valley NPFar. Far away from any interstate
We're generally in the 200-300 mile range desire most retired populate seem to be. Read somewhere: "The good traveler has no fixed destination in object and is not intent on arriving." Seems like a good idea to me!!
come up unfortunatly at 38 and a working stiff. I have a limit to my travel time. However that said. I decided time with the kids was more important and took two weeks off with the family. We drove to Disney World in our A and took 3 days to get there and after a week in assemble Wilderness and then another several days spending Thanks Giving with family we took 4 days comming domiciliate with one a full day off to walk the Gulf shores land to do a little shelling. Kids had a ball at Disney and the wife and I had really reconnected. Most time off I have had in the last 15 years since college. I noticed on my light driving days we really enjoyed the day. Getting to camp early allows you to unwind relax and enjoy the day. I did undergo one long driving day on the way out and one on the way back where I spend 12 hours on the road but the rest was spent taking it easy and enjoying the jaunt. Of course driving the A is so much easier than driving our sport ute as we have the bathroom for my female travel companions. Wife two daughters 6 and 4 and two female pups. At least I still had football to keep the testosterone levels up along the way.
